Siri Shortcuts for Task Automations
May 6, 2022Enjoying the Process
May 13, 2022What are Siri Shortcuts or Automations? Well, my bud Bailey explains it in this article. So go there and check that out first. And since he did such a great job, I’ll jump right into my automation.
Siri Automation Walkthrough
Today I will walk you through how to use a RFID tag to play your phone’s music on a bluetooth speaker.
Automations can only be done on an iPad or iPhone currently. So open the Shortcuts app on your iPhone and tap Automation on the bottom menu.
Choose to create a Personal Automation. This a an automation that will run on your device. The other option is a Home automation that will run on a device that is always at your home. I have an Apple TV that runs a couple automations on this option.
The new automation we will be choosing will be tapping an NFC tag to our phone. Choose NFC (Near Field Communication) for our setup.

My NFC tag is a Hot Wheels ID car which I got for my son, but don’t tell him I use it from time to time!
Now the next thing to do is choose the Playback Destination for your automation to direct to. Tap on Change Playback Destination and choose your preferred device. I’m choosing my HomePods labeled Living Room.
I’ve grabbed a couple Hot Wheels cars around the house and made a simple way to easily change my audio output wherever I am in the house! I’ve also setup some automations at the Home level that my device doesn’t run by my Apple TV turns on lights at night and back off in the morning. Now go forth and make some great automations, and don’t forget to show me in the comments what you’ve made, or if you want me to show any more!
